East District Roll of Honour:
The District Chairman initiated the resurrection of the former District Roll of Honour- a Roll honouring persons who had given particularly good service to the District- by enrolling Ann Hanna at the recent District AGM in recognition of her hard work as District Treasurer. The original Roll document has been lost and it is quite probable that it was destroyed in the fire at NI HQ on May Street some 30 plus years ago. The Roll does not supersede the Association’s awards system, and it is an entirely East Belfast document. I support heartily Billy Jenkins’ initiative, and I write to ask for help in developing the Roll to include persons who wholly merit District recognition of distinguished services to the District or in recognition of a particularly onerous job well done. To this end, I ask past and present members of East Belfast District to undertake the following and to pass on anything relevant directly to Billy Jenkins:-
Pass on any information, however insignificant it may seem, about the existence or otherwise of the original Roll of Honour.
Pass on the name of any person who is potentially worthy of being placed on the Roll of Honour, irrespective of whether or not that person is active or inactive currently in the Movement. This includes persons who have by now, Gone Home.
Have a look, or another look, at any records which you might have, which might assist compilation of this Roll of Honour.
The format of the Roll of Honour has to be decided but the current preference is for a leather-bound volume to which names can be added from time to time.
Thank you,
Philip Holland, District President
